Summers have set in and you can’t just wait to have a sun bath and dive into the pool, at the same time you also need to take care of your skin as it might get damaged and develop a darker tan than what you’ve wished for. Using good amounts of sunscreen lotions, moisturizers, taking in enough fluids to restore your body of the lost salts, eating right are all essential.
Some Skin Care Tips for Summers
- As a rule, first thing you need to do is drink plenty of water to care for your skin in the harsh summer months. Replenish your body with water that is lost in the form of sweat and to flush out toxins from the body and to avoid acne and skin break outs. Adequate water content in the body helps keep your skin soft and supple.
- Take to fresh fruit juices, coconut water is excellent for summers.
- Use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15- 30 to block the harsh sunrays that damage and tan your skin. Apply it a good 15 minutes before you go out, water proof sunscreens are more effective as these don’t get lost in your sweat.
- Use moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated and supple. Always carry them with you whenever you are on the move.
- Wear your sunglasses, carry an umbrella and wear a hat so as to avoid tan on your face and neck.
- Milk is a great natural moisturizer , mix raw milk with a teaspoon of honey and apply all over face and neck , leave on for 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
- The sun can increase your sebum levels making the skin oily and greasy due to which dust and grime settle easily on skin leading to clogged pores and acne, so follow a regular cleansing routine depending on your skin type. You do not completely want to strip your skin off its natural oil content, lest skin could feel too dry.
- Avoid using soap on your face; opt for a mild face wash that suits your skin type. Soaps can make your skin all the more dry.
- Opt for cleansers and moisturizers that are made out of natural products and herbs like aloe-vera, sandalwood, rose, apricots, cucumber etc. Chemical based products leave the skin damaged and dry.
- Avoid going out too much into the sun, try finishing up your jobs in the early hours of the day or in the evenings when the sun isn’t too harsh.
- Wear cotton clothes, avoid synthetics.
- Take a cucumber, make a paste, mix in some milk and honey, apply all over face and neck, leave on for 10 – 15 minutes, rinse with cold water.
- Keep splashing cold water on your face at least 5 – 6 times a day to feel fresh and clean, apply moisturizer.
- Do not use deodorant soaps on your face, as these contain harsh chemicals that could damage and irritate your skin.
- Remember less is more in summers, so go for minimal make up , just a touch of natural foundation will do the trick , clear mascara gives a soft look that’s ideal for summers.
- Eat loads of fruits and fresh vegetables.
