Foods For Healthy Hair

The food you eat has it affects not just on your health and skin but also on your hair. Shiny, smooth lovely hair is a reflection of a healthy diet. Fresh fruits, an array of vegetables, meat, fish and egg that are in abundance with essential minerals, vitamins and other nutrients , drinking your 8 glasses of water per day, good amount of exercise and avoiding fat foods, smoking and alcohol is all you need to do for that lustrous hair you’ve always desired.

Water

Water hydrates your hair and keeps it supple and silky; you will be surprised to know that water makes up 1/4th of the weight of a strand of hair. Sip water at regular intervals, every 15 minutes. Getting thirsty is an indication that your body needs to be hydrated with water but do not wait until you feel thirsty. Make sure your body gets 8 to 10 glasses of water in a day.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is found in foods like eggs, milk, butter, carrots, fish and leafy vegetables. These foods help produce sebum in the scalp providing strength to the hair follicles.

Vitamin B6

Soya beans , wheat germs , whole grain cereals , nuts , liver , fish , meats are rich in vitamin B6 , diet rich in these foods helps prevent hair loss and in producing melanin secretion which helps maintain its color preventing premature graying.

Vitamin C

This helps maintain the scalp and hair health, citrus fruits, avocados, bananas, black currents, kiwis, dark green veggies are all rich in vitamin C.

Vitamin E

Scalp circulation is triggered with foods rich in Vitamin E. Leafy greens, soy beans, wheat germ, pulses, vegetable oils, dried seeds and nuts are a rich source of this vitamin.

Iron

Foods rich in iron content help prevent hair loss and anemia. Include spinach, pulses, lentils, dried fruit, liver, kidneys, whole grains in your diet if hair loss is your nagging problem.

Calcium

Including calcium in your diet is important for healthy hair growth. Milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt, tofu, beans, lentils, brewer’s yeast, fish are a rich source of calcium.

Iodine

Dry hair condition and hair loss is controlled by iodine. Seafood, kelp, iodized salt and garlic are rich in iodine.

Sulphur

One of the minerals that helps maintain the hair structure is sulphur, garlic, onions, asparagus, meat, fish , eggs and diary products are a source of sulphur.
